Complete new version of the standard reference of contemporary european architecture. 1000 buildings of the last 5 years.

This volume, 1000 x European Architecture, displays the entire span of continental, architectural styles from the last five years. This time period includes the building boom, which began in 2005 and ended with the banking crisis in 2008, as well as constructions from the once-again optimistic year of 2010. The buildings included (not only because of the aforementioned reasons) all have very different economical backgrounds. Similarly wide-ranging is the stylistic diversity of the projects presented. Though the style-debate has somewhat decreased, its still has an influence, though the position is less dogmatic than it was during the 1990s. Questions about quality have been raised instead, the worth of the materials and, particularly, ecological sustainability now stand at the center of discussion. As early as the first half of the 00s, the globalization of architecture was already a heavily discussed topic, although it was only in the second half of that decade that brought wit it social-media (Facebook was founded in 2004), a development which opened up public discussion on any and all existing buildings. Because of these factors – and due to the public arena in which their work is displayed – the architects of today have their work constantly reviewed, this state of affairs is of course then reflected in the work itself.
